Losing a tooth changes more than your smile. Chewing shifts to one side, a gap can whistle when you talk, and the neighboring teeth slowly begin to drift toward the empty space. Whether you lost a molar years ago and learned to live without it, or you cracked a front tooth last week and need an answer quickly, there is a replacement option that fits your mouth, your schedule, and your budget. Our job is to help you understand the choices clearly and then do the work well.
Tooth replacement is the process of filling the space left by a missing or non-restorable tooth with a permanent or removable restoration. At our Ocala practice, that can mean a dental implant with a crown, a fixed bridge anchored to the teeth on either side of the gap, a partial denture that clasps securely in place, or — for people missing most or all of their teeth — complete dentures, implant-supported dentures, snap-in dentures, or full-arch solutions like All-on-4 and Teeth in a Day.
The right choice depends on how many teeth are missing, how much healthy bone remains, the condition of the surrounding gums, and what you want day to day. A single missing premolar often calls for an implant or a bridge. A patient wearing a loose lower denture may be far happier with implant-supported dentures that stay put during a meal. Someone with several failing teeth across both arches may be a candidate for full mouth reconstruction, where extractions, bone grafting, and restorations are sequenced into one coordinated plan. We see all ages here, and we treat patients from Ocala, Belleview, Silver Springs, Summerfield, The Villages, Lady Lake, Dunnellon, Marion Oaks, and the surrounding communities.
Most people are candidates for some form of tooth replacement, though not every option suits every mouth on day one. Healthy gums matter, so if gum disease is present we typically address it first with scaling and root planing, periodontal therapy, or gum grafting. If the jawbone has thinned after years without a tooth, bone grafting or sinus lift surgery can rebuild the foundation an implant needs. A damaged tooth that still has a healthy root may not need replacing at all — root canal therapy with a crown often saves it, and we would rather keep your natural tooth when that is realistic.
Timing is the other common question. Implants involve a healing period between placement and the final crown, while a bridge or partial denture can be completed more quickly. Our on-site dental lab is a real advantage here: it allows for same-day crowns, dentures, and denture repairs, which means fewer trips back and forth and less time with a visible gap. We also handle extractions, including surgical extractions and wisdom teeth removal, so care stays under one roof rather than being handed off.
A consultation usually includes an exam, imaging, a review of your medical history, and an honest conversation about what each option involves. Nitrous oxide and oral sedation are available for patients who feel anxious about treatment.
Aftercare and What Results Look Like
Healing is usually straightforward with simple habits: soft foods for a few days, gentle rinsing, and following the specific instructions we give you. Implant sites need careful brushing around the area, and our hygienist will show you how to clean around a bridge or under a partial. Removable dentures should be cleaned daily and stored properly overnight.
Long term, replacement teeth benefit from the same routine care as natural teeth:
- Regular cleanings and exams so we can check the fit and condition of your restoration
- Periodontal maintenance visits if you have a history of gum disease
- Implant maintenance to keep the tissue around each implant healthy
- A night guard if you grind or clench, which protects both natural teeth and restorations
- Prompt attention to any looseness, soreness, or chipping — denture repairs are often handled same day
With consistent care, a well-made restoration restores comfortable chewing and a natural appearance. Dentures occasionally need relining or adjusting as the jaw changes shape over time, and that is normal rather than a sign something went wrong.
Insurance, Payment, and Getting Started
We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file claims as a general practice, including for implant, surgical, and prosthodontic care. We also welcome self-pay and cash patients, and we offer flexible payment plans so a larger treatment plan can be spread out sensibly. We will give you a clear estimate before treatment begins.
We have cared for this community for over 30 years, and Dr. Hussein Salifu and Dr. Marco Geris would be glad to look at your situation and talk through the options. Call us to schedule a consultation — emergency appointments are available when you need to be seen right away.
