A tooth that cracks on a Saturday morning, a filling that falls out mid-meal, a child who takes an elbow to the mouth at a weekend game, swelling along the jaw that keeps you awake — dental emergencies rarely arrive at a convenient moment. When they do, the first question is usually the same: *can someone see me today?* We keep room in our schedule for exactly these moments, and we have been doing it for Ocala families for more than 30 years.

A dental emergency is any oral problem that needs prompt attention to relieve pain, stop bleeding, control infection, or save a tooth. That covers a wide range of situations. Some are dramatic — a tooth knocked out or pushed loose by a fall or sports injury, a fractured front tooth, a jaw that suddenly locks or will not open normally. Others are quieter but just as urgent: a deep, throbbing ache that pulses when you lie down, sensitivity that lingers long after something hot or cold, a broken crown that leaves a sharp edge against your tongue, or a denture that cracks and makes eating impossible.

We see patients of all ages, adults and children alike, and we offer same-day emergency appointments when our schedule allows. You do not need a referral to be seen for urgent care. Because our office provides general, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry under one roof — including root canal therapy, simple and surgical extractions, wisdom teeth removal, crowns, and denture repair — most emergencies can be diagnosed and treated here rather than handed off somewhere else. Our team includes Dr. Hussein Salifu and Dr. Marco Geris, along with a dental hygienist on staff.

When you call, tell us plainly what happened and what you are feeling. That helps us gauge urgency and prepare. If a permanent tooth has been knocked out, handle it by the crown rather than the root, keep it moist, and come in as quickly as you can. If a piece of tooth has broken away, bring it with you. For swelling, a cold compress on the outside of the cheek can help while you travel to our office.

At the visit, we start by getting you comfortable and understanding the problem. We examine the area, take any images needed to see what is happening below the gumline, and look for the underlying cause rather than just the symptom — a crack, decay that has reached the nerve, an infection at the root tip, gum involvement, or a jaw joint issue. Then we explain what we found in straightforward language and lay out your options, including what can be addressed today and what may be better scheduled once the urgency passes.

Treatment depends entirely on the diagnosis. It may mean a filling or composite bonding, a root canal on a front tooth, premolar, or molar, a root canal retreatment on a tooth treated years ago, a crown, an extraction, or care for a traumatic injury. Our on-site dental lab is a meaningful advantage in these moments, since it allows for same-day crowns, dentures, and denture repairs instead of weeks spent waiting. For patients who feel anxious, we offer nitrous oxide sedation and oral sedation dentistry.

Aftercare, Healing, and What Comes Next

Once the immediate problem is handled, recovery is mostly about protecting the area and following simple instructions. We will tell you what to eat and avoid, how to manage tenderness, how to keep the site clean, and which signs — increasing swelling, fever, bleeding that will not stop — mean you should call us right away. Most people feel markedly better once the source of pressure or infection has been addressed.

Emergency care is often the first step rather than the last. A tooth treated with a root canal usually needs a crown to protect it. An extracted tooth may open a conversation about bridges, dental implants, or implant-supported options. Recurring jaw pain, clicking, or headaches may point toward TMJ therapy, and nighttime clenching may call for a night guard. We also treat gum disease, which quietly drives many emergencies.

Insurance, Payment, and Booking

We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file claims as a general practice. We also welcome self-pay and cash patients, and we offer flexible payment plans so cost does not delay care you need now.
