Maybe you've noticed your front teeth starting to overlap again years after braces, or you've been quietly covering your smile in photos because of a twist or gap that never got addressed. Whatever brought you here, straightening teeth as an adult — or helping a teenager through it without a mouthful of brackets — doesn't have to mean putting your life on hold. Clear aligners are a removable, nearly invisible way to move teeth into better position, and we've been guiding patients through orthodontic care right here in Ocala for over 30 years.
Clear aligners are a series of thin, custom-made plastic trays that fit snugly over your teeth. Each tray is shaped slightly differently from the one before it, so wearing them in sequence applies gentle, steady pressure that guides teeth into a planned position over time. You wear each set for the prescribed period, then move on to the next. Because the trays come out for meals and brushing, there are no food restrictions and no learning how to floss around wires and brackets.
We treat both children and adults with orthodontics, and clear aligners appeal to a wide range of patients: the professional who doesn't want metal showing in meetings, the parent who finished braces in high school and watched teeth shift back, the teenager who plays sports, the retiree in The Villages or Lady Lake who finally has time to address a crooked smile. We also offer Invisalign as part of our aligner care, and we welcome orthodontic transfer patients who started treatment elsewhere and need to continue it closer to home. You do not need a referral to be seen.
Good candidacy starts with a straightforward look at the whole mouth, not just the position of the teeth. Aligners move teeth through bone and gum tissue, so active gum disease, untreated decay, or a cracked tooth should be handled first. That's one of the advantages of working with a general practice that handles periodontal care, fillings, and root canal therapy under one roof — if something needs attention before alignment begins, we can take care of it without sending you across town.
It's also worth being honest about the biggest variable: wear time. Aligners only work when they're in your mouth. Patients who leave trays sitting in a case during the workday see slower progress and may need the plan adjusted. We'll talk candidly about what your daily routine will look like, including how long trays should stay in, how to clean them, and what to do if one gets lost or damaged. Some cases involve bite concerns, significant crowding, or jaw symptoms — and because we also evaluate TMJ and orofacial pain, including jaw clicking, limited movement, and jaw-related headaches, we can factor those issues into the conversation rather than treating tooth position in isolation.
Finishing Treatment and Keeping Your Results
When the final tray comes out, teeth aren't finished settling. Bone and ligament need time to stabilize around the new positions, and without support, teeth drift — which is exactly why so many adults seek treatment a second time. Retainers are not optional extras; they're what protects the work you just did. We provide retainers for our own patients and also make them for people who completed orthodontic treatment somewhere else and need a replacement.
Day-to-day aftercare is simple and familiar. Keep up with cleanings and exams so we can watch gum health and catch small problems early, rinse and clean trays or retainers as instructed, and let us know if anything stops fitting. If you grind your teeth at night, a night guard can protect both your teeth and your results. Many patients also choose to finish with whitening or cosmetic bonding once alignment is complete, and we offer in-office and take-home whitening, composite bonding, and smile-design consultations if you want to take that next step.
Insurance, Payment, and Getting Started
We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file orthodontic claims as a general practice, and we're glad to help you understand what your plan covers before you commit. We also welcome self-pay and cash patients, and we offer flexible payment plans so the cost can be spread out in a way that fits your budget.
