A chipped molar, an old filling that finally gave out, a tooth that aches when you drink something cold — these are the everyday moments that bring most people through our doors. Dental restoration is simply the work of rebuilding teeth that have been damaged by decay, fracture, wear, or time, so they look natural and function the way they should. For more than 30 years, we've been doing that work here in Ocala, and we've learned that the goal is rarely just fixing one tooth. It's helping you chew comfortably, speak clearly, and stop thinking about your mouth all day.
Restorative dentistry covers a wide range of treatments, and the right one depends on how much healthy tooth structure remains. A small cavity may need nothing more than a dental filling or composite bonding. A tooth with a larger area of damage may be better served by an onlay, which conserves more natural structure than a full coverage option. When a tooth is cracked, heavily worn, or weakened after root canal therapy, a crown protects what's left and restores the biting surface. If a tooth is missing entirely, bridges, dental implants, and implant-supported bridges fill the gap so neighboring teeth don't drift.
The people we help look very different from one another. Some are in their twenties with a single fractured tooth from a sports injury. Others have worn their teeth down over decades of grinding and need a broader plan — full mouth reconstruction or full mouth rehabilitation — to rebuild bite height and balance. We also care for patients who are tired of a loose partial and want to explore complete or partial dentures, implant-supported dentures, or All-on-4 and full arch dental implants. We see all ages, adults and children alike, and we accept patients without a referral for our endodontic, periodontal, surgical, prosthodontic, and orofacial pain services.
The most common question we hear is whether a damaged tooth can be saved at all. Often it can. Our team treats cracked teeth, performs root canal therapy on anterior teeth, premolars, and molars, and handles root canal retreatments when a previous procedure needs revisiting. Saving a natural tooth is usually our first choice. When a tooth truly can't be kept, we discuss simple or surgical extraction and talk through tooth replacement options right away, including bone grafting or sinus lift surgery if the site needs support before an implant.
Timing is the second question. Our on-site dental lab is a real advantage here, because it allows us to make same-day crowns, dentures, and denture repairs without shipping work out and waiting weeks. That matters when you've broken a front tooth before a wedding, or when a denture cracks and you still need to eat dinner. We also offer emergency dental appointments, including same-day emergency visits for traumatic dental injuries.
A few things are worth knowing before treatment begins:
- Healthy gums come first — active gum disease is treated with scaling and root planing, periodontal care, or grafting before permanent restorations are placed
- Crown lengthening or gum contouring may be recommended when more tooth structure needs to be exposed
- Nitrous oxide and oral sedation are available if dental anxiety has kept you away
- Night guards help protect new restorations if you clench or grind
- Jaw pain, clicking, or limited movement is evaluated as part of the plan, since bite problems affect how restorations hold up
Aftercare and Long-Term Results
Most restorations feel comfortable within a day or two. Mild sensitivity to temperature after a filling or crown is common and usually fades. We'll let you know if a new bite needs a small adjustment — that's a quick visit, and it's worth making rather than living with an uneven chew.
Longevity depends mostly on what happens after you leave. Brushing, flossing around crowns and bridges, and keeping regular cleanings and exams with our hygienist protect your investment. Implants need their own maintenance schedule, which we provide. If you grind at night, wearing your guard is the single most effective habit for keeping porcelain intact. We'd rather see you twice a year than fix the same tooth twice.
Insurance, Payment, and Getting Started
We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file claims as a General Practitioner across our service areas. Self-pay and cash patients are welcome, and flexible payment plans are available so larger treatment — like full mouth dental implants — can be phased in a way that works for your budget. We'll review estimated costs with you before treatment begins.
Dr. Hussein Salifu and Dr. Marco Geris care for patients from Ocala, Belleview, Silver Springs, The Villages, Dunnellon, Summerfield, Lady Lake, and surrounding Marion County communities. If something in your mouth doesn't feel right, give us a call — we'd be glad to take a look and talk through your options.
