Bridges in The Villages

Bridges in The Villages

A missing tooth changes more than your smile — it changes how you chew a steak, how you say certain words, and how the teeth around the gap behave over time. For many of our patients from The Villages, that gap started small and manageable, then began to affect everything from bite comfort to confidence at a social dinner. A dental bridge closes that space with a fixed restoration that stays put, looks natural, and lets you get back to eating and talking without a second thought.

A bridge is a custom-made restoration that literally bridges the gap left by one or more missing teeth. It's made up of one or more replacement teeth — called pontics — anchored on either side by crowns placed over your natural teeth, or supported by dental implants. Once it's cemented or secured in place, it isn't removable. You brush it, chew with it, and otherwise treat it like the rest of your teeth.

We've been practicing general, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry in Ocala for more than 30 years, and bridges remain one of the most dependable ways we replace teeth. Patients who travel to us from The Villages often appreciate that we handle the full picture under one roof — exams, extractions, root canal therapy, gum treatment, implants, and the bridge itself — so there's no juggling referrals between separate offices across different towns.

Most people who come to us for a bridge fall into a few familiar situations. Some have lost a tooth to a fracture or deep decay and want the space filled before neighboring teeth start to drift. Others already have crowns or large fillings on the teeth beside a gap, which makes those teeth natural candidates to anchor a bridge. And some are weighing a bridge against a partial denture because they'd rather have something fixed in place than something they take in and out each night.

Good candidacy comes down to the health of the supporting teeth and gums. If the anchor teeth are strong and the surrounding gum tissue is healthy, a traditional bridge is often a straightforward choice. If gum disease is present, we'll treat that first with scaling and root planing or periodontal care. If there aren't suitable teeth on both sides of the gap, we may recommend an implant-supported bridge, which uses dental implants rather than natural teeth as the foundation — something we place and restore here as well. Bone grafting or a sinus lift is sometimes part of that plan when there isn't enough bone to support an implant, and we'll tell you honestly during your exam which path fits your mouth.

What the Process Looks Like

Your first visit is an exam, imaging, and a conversation about what you want from the result. We look at the gap, the condition of the neighboring teeth, your bite, and your gum health, then explain your realistic options — bridge, implant, partial denture — and what each involves.

For a traditional bridge, we prepare the anchor teeth by reshaping them to receive crowns, then take detailed impressions or scans. Those records go to our on-site dental lab, which is one of the real advantages of being treated here. Having a lab in the building means shorter waits, direct communication about shade and shape, and fewer trips back and forth — a meaningful convenience when you're driving in from The Villages. We also offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation for patients who feel uneasy in the chair.

Here's what you can generally expect from treatment:

  • A thorough exam, X-rays, and a clear explanation of your options before anything begins
  • Preparation of the anchor teeth or placement of implants, depending on your plan
  • A temporary restoration so you're never walking around with an open gap
  • Fitting, bite adjustment, and final cementation of your custom bridge
  • A follow-up check and guidance on cleaning around and under the bridge

Caring for Your Bridge Afterward

A bridge lasts longest when the teeth and gums holding it up stay healthy. That means brushing twice daily, cleaning underneath the pontic with floss threaders or a water flosser, and keeping up with regular cleanings and exams with our hygienist. If you grind your teeth at night, a custom night guard protects both the bridge and your natural teeth.

We also handle the rest of what comes up. If a bridge chips, loosens, or a supporting tooth develops a problem, we offer emergency appointments, including same-day availability — you don't need to wait weeks or seek out another office.

Insurance, Payment, and Scheduling

We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file claims as a general practitioner, and we welcome self-pay and cash patients. For treatment that spans multiple appointments, we offer flexible payment plans so cost can be spread out rather than paid all at once. We'll go over estimated coverage with you before treatment starts.

No referral is needed. If you're in The Villages, Lady Lake, Oxford, Summerfield, or anywhere nearby and you're ready to close a gap for good, call us to schedule an exam with Dr. Salifu or Dr. Geris.
