Implant-Supported Dentures in Oxford

Implant-Supported Dentures in Oxford

A denture that clicks firmly onto implants behaves differently from one that rests on gum tissue. It doesn't shift when you bite into something firm, it doesn't need adhesive to stay put, and it doesn't rock when you laugh or speak. For Oxford patients who have lost most or all of their teeth in one arch — or who are tired of a lower denture that never quite sits still — that difference is the whole point of the treatment.

Implant-supported dentures use small titanium posts placed in the jawbone as anchors. Instead of relying on suction and the shape of your ridge, the denture connects directly to those posts. Some designs snap on and off for cleaning, which many people know as snap-in dentures. Others are fixed in place and removed only by us at your checkups. Both options are available here, and the right one depends on your bone, your bite, your daily routine, and what you want to spend.

We see Oxford patients in a range of situations. Some have worn a complete denture for years and want more stability. Some are facing the loss of remaining teeth that can't be saved and want to plan ahead rather than go through a long period of adjusting to a loose appliance. Others have a partial denture that keeps stressing the teeth it clasps onto. Implant-supported dentures address all three, and because we also provide conventional complete and partial dentures, implant-supported bridges, and full-arch options like All-on-4 and Teeth In A Day, we can lay out honest comparisons instead of pushing one path.

Your first visit is an evaluation. We examine your remaining teeth and gums, take images to assess bone volume, and talk through how you eat, speak, and care for your current denture. Candidacy mostly comes down to bone support and gum health. If gum disease is present, we treat it first — scaling and root planing, periodontal therapy, or surgical treatment as needed. If bone has resorbed where teeth were lost long ago, bone grafting or sinus lift surgery can rebuild the foundation before implants are placed.

Most adults who are in reasonable general health are candidates for some version of this treatment. We'll tell you plainly if we think a conventional denture or a different restoration is the better fit for your situation. Our team places implants in-house and handles the surgical side as well, including simple and surgical extractions and wisdom teeth removal, so you're not sent elsewhere mid-treatment.

What the Process Looks Like

After planning, we place the implants and allow time for the bone to integrate around them. During healing, you won't go without teeth — we provide a temporary so you can eat and speak while the implants bond. Healing time varies by person and by how much grafting was involved.

Once the implants are stable, we take final records and build the denture. Our on-site dental lab matters here: it lets us fabricate and adjust dentures without shipping work out, which shortens waiting between appointments and makes same-day repairs and relines possible later on. When the finished denture is attached or snapped into place, we check the bite carefully and refine the fit over a short series of visits.

  • Fewer trips for Oxford patients, since surgery, lab work, and restoration all happen under one roof
  • A denture that stays seated without adhesive
  • Better chewing confidence with firmer foods
  • Less bone loss pressure on the ridge compared to a tissue-supported denture
  • Nitrous oxide and oral sedation available for patients who feel anxious about treatment

Caring for Your New Denture

Daily care is straightforward but not optional. Removable designs come out for cleaning, and the attachment areas and implant posts need brushing just like natural teeth. Fixed designs require careful cleaning underneath with the tools we show you. Attachment components wear over time and are replaced periodically — that's normal maintenance, not a failure.

We provide ongoing implant maintenance and periodontal maintenance cleanings, and our hygienist monitors the gum tissue around each implant at every visit. If something breaks, loosens, or feels off, we offer emergency appointments rather than making you wait.

Insurance, Payment, and Getting Started

We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file claims as a general practice, including for the surgical and prosthetic portions. We also welcome self-pay patients and offer flexible payment plans, which helps when treatment is phased over several months.
