Tooth Replacement in McIntosh

Losing a tooth rarely happens at a convenient time. Maybe a molar cracked while you were eating, a long-ago root canal finally gave out, or a partial denture you've worn for years no longer fits the way it should. Whatever brought you here, the question is usually the same: what are my options, and how soon can I get this handled? For our McIntosh neighbors, we've spent more than 30 years answering that question in our Ocala office, and we'll walk you through every choice before you commit to anything.
Tooth replacement is the broad term for restoring the space left behind when a tooth is removed or lost. It isn't a single procedure — it's a set of options chosen to match your bone, your gums, your bite, and your budget. Some patients need one tooth replaced. Others are dealing with several failing teeth at once, or an entire arch that has been held together by a worn denture for a decade.
The options we provide include single dental implants, bridges and implant-supported bridges, partial and complete dentures, snap-in dentures, implant-supported dentures, and full-arch solutions such as All-on-4 and Teeth in a Day. When bone volume in the jaw isn't sufficient to support an implant, we also perform bone grafting and sinus lift surgery to build a stable foundation first. Because we handle surgical placement, restoration, and lab work under one roof, McIntosh patients aren't sent from office to office to finish a single treatment plan.
Most adults missing one or more teeth are candidates for something, even if they've been told otherwise in the past. The honest answer depends on an exam, X-rays, and an evaluation of your gum health. Active gum disease, for example, needs to be addressed first — we treat that with scaling and root planing, periodontal therapy, and gum grafting when needed, which often opens the door to implants later.
Here's why replacing a missing tooth matters beyond appearance:
- Neighboring teeth tend to drift or tip into an open space, which changes your bite over time
- Chewing shifts to the other side of the mouth, overloading those teeth
- The jawbone in an empty area gradually loses volume without stimulation
- Speech and confidence can be affected, especially with front teeth
- A well-fitted replacement makes daily cleaning and long-term maintenance simpler
If you're already wearing a denture that clicks, rubs, or slips, you're also a candidate for a conversation about implant-supported or snap-in dentures, which anchor to implants instead of relying on suction alone.
What the Process Looks Like
We start with a thorough exam, imaging, and a straightforward discussion of what each option involves — cost, timeline, surgery or no surgery, and how long each stage takes. Nothing moves forward until you understand the plan.
For implants, treatment typically includes placement of the implant post, a healing period while the bone integrates, and then the final crown, bridge, or denture attachment. If a tooth still needs to come out, we perform both simple and surgical extractions in-house, including wisdom teeth. For bridges and dentures, we take impressions and work directly with our on-site dental lab — the same lab that allows us to deliver same-day crowns, dentures, and denture repairs. That's a real convenience for McIntosh patients who'd rather not make repeat trips for small adjustments.
Comfort is planned, not improvised. We offer nitrous oxide sedation and oral sedation for patients who feel anxious about surgical visits, and we see all ages, from children through adults, with a hygienist on staff for the cleanings that keep everything healthy afterward.
Aftercare and Keeping Your Replacement Strong
Healing instructions depend on the procedure — soft foods for a period after surgery, careful rinsing, and avoiding pressure on the site while tissue closes. We'll go over exactly what to expect and when to call us. If something feels wrong in between visits, we offer emergency dental appointments, including same-day emergency care for urgent problems.
Long term, implants and bridges need the same attention natural teeth do. We provide implant maintenance, periodontal maintenance, regular exams, cleanings, and oral cancer screenings. Dentures get relined, adjusted, and repaired as your mouth changes. Night guards are available if clenching or grinding threatens your new restoration.
Insurance, Payment, and Getting Started
We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file claims as a General Practitioner, and we welcome self-pay and cash patients. Flexible payment plans are available so larger treatment — full-arch implants or a full mouth reconstruction — can be spread out sensibly.
No referral is needed. Call Ocala Dental Care and we'll get you scheduled with Dr. Hussein Salifu or Dr. Marco Geris.
