Cosmetic Dentistry in McIntosh

A chipped front tooth, years of coffee stains, a gap that shows up in every photo — these are the kinds of things that bring people from McIntosh into our chairs for cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic work covers any treatment aimed primarily at how your teeth look: their color, shape, size, alignment, and how evenly they frame your smile. The good news is that most of it is straightforward, and much of it can be completed in a small number of visits.

Cosmetic dentistry is a category, not a single procedure. For McIntosh patients, that usually means teeth whitening (in-office or take-home trays), composite bonding to repair chips and close small gaps, porcelain or composite veneers to resurface the front teeth, crowns and onlays that restore a damaged tooth while matching your natural shade, gum contouring or gingivectomy to even out a gum line that covers too much tooth, and Invisalign or clear aligners when crowding or spacing is the real issue behind an uneven smile.

We've practiced general, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry in Ocala for over 30 years, and McIntosh sits within the area we regularly serve alongside Reddick, Ocala, and the surrounding Marion County communities. Because we handle restorative, periodontal, orthodontic, and prosthodontic care under one roof, a McIntosh patient who needs more than one type of treatment doesn't have to be referred out and start over somewhere else.

Most healthy adults are candidates, but cosmetic treatment works best on a stable foundation. Before we recommend veneers or whitening, we complete a dental exam, check for decay, and evaluate gum health. Active gum disease or untreated cavities get addressed first — through scaling and root planing, gum disease treatment, or fillings — because cosmetic materials bond and last better on sound teeth and healthy tissue.

Candidacy also depends on what's bothering you. Surface staining often responds well to whitening alone. Chips, worn edges, and small gaps are frequently handled with composite bonding in a single appointment. Teeth that are structurally compromised, heavily filled, or cracked usually call for crowns or onlays rather than veneers. If teeth are missing, cosmetic improvement may involve implants, bridges, or implant-supported options instead. And if you grind your teeth, we may recommend a night guard to protect the work you've invested in.

What to Expect, From Consultation Through Aftercare

Your first visit is a cosmetic smile-design consultation. We listen to what you want changed, examine your teeth and gums, take any necessary images, and lay out the realistic options with their trade-offs. You leave knowing what each approach involves, how many visits it takes, and what it costs before anything begins.

Treatment itself varies by procedure, but a typical sequence looks like this:

  • Preparation — any decay, gum, or bite issues are treated first so the cosmetic result sits on a stable base.
  • Shade and shape planning — we select a color and contour that suit your face and your other teeth.
  • The procedure — bonding and in-office whitening are usually single-visit; veneers and crowns involve preparation, then placement.
  • Fabrication — our on-site dental lab makes same-day crowns possible and handles denture work and repairs without outside lab delays.
  • Fit and finish — we check the bite, polish the margins, and adjust until it feels and looks right.

Aftercare is mostly ordinary good habits. Brush and floss daily, keep up with cleanings and exams, and limit the staining habits that caused the problem in the first place — coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco. Bonding and composite veneers can stain over time and may need occasional polishing or touch-ups. Porcelain resists stains but still needs healthy gums underneath, which is why periodontal maintenance matters. Avoid chewing ice or using your front teeth as tools. If you have whitening trays, we'll show you how to refresh your shade at home.

Comfort, Scheduling, and Paying for Treatment

For patients who feel anxious about dental work, we offer nitrous oxide sedation and oral sedation. Longer cosmetic appointments are easier when you're relaxed, and we'd rather you tell us upfront than put off care. We also keep room for emergency appointments, so a McIntosh patient who breaks a front tooth isn't waiting weeks for help.

We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file claims as a general practice. We also welcome self-pay and cash patients. Because many cosmetic treatments aren't fully covered by insurance, we offer flexible payment plans so treatment can be spread out rather than paid all at once.

Dr. Hussein Salifu and Dr. Marco Geris see patients of all ages, and we're a member of the FDA and the Central Florida District Dental Association. If you're in McIntosh and ready to talk about changing something you don't like about your smile, call us to schedule a consultation.
