Dentures in Marion Oaks

A cracked denture or a tooth that finally gives out doesn't wait for a convenient day. That's one reason our on-site dental lab matters so much to the Marion Oaks patients we see: repairs, relines, and new dentures are fabricated right here in our Ocala office rather than shipped out to an outside facility. Fewer hand-offs usually means fewer trips and shorter waits — a real benefit when you're driving in from Marion Oaks for care.
Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth and the gum tissue around them. They restore the ability to chew a normal range of foods, support the lips and cheeks so the face keeps its natural shape, and give you a complete smile again. We provide conventional complete and partial dentures, and we also repair or replace dentures made elsewhere.
A complete denture replaces all the teeth in an arch — upper, lower, or both. It rests directly on the gum ridge and is the right choice when the remaining teeth can't be saved or have already been removed. A partial denture fills in gaps when you still have healthy natural teeth. It uses those teeth for support and stability, and it also keeps them from drifting into the open spaces, which is a common problem after extractions go unreplaced.
Choosing between them usually comes down to what's left to work with. If several teeth are sound and periodontally stable, a partial preserves them and is typically less of a change to adjust to. If the remaining teeth are failing, extracting them and moving to a complete denture can end an ongoing cycle of pain and repair. We also offer implant-supported dentures and snap-in dentures for patients who want more retention than a conventional denture provides, and those options can be discussed during the same consultation.
Good candidates for dentures come from a wide range of situations. Some Marion Oaks patients have lived with a few missing back teeth for years and finally want to chew comfortably on both sides. Others are dealing with advanced gum disease, long-term decay, or an older denture that no longer fits after the jaw ridge has changed shape. We see all ages here, and we evaluate each case individually rather than pushing a single solution.
The planning visit starts with a full exam, which may include X-rays and an oral cancer screening, plus an assessment of your gum health and any remaining teeth. If extractions are needed, we handle simple and surgical extractions in-house, and bone grafting is available when the ridge needs support for a future implant option. If gum disease is present, we treat that first — a denture performs best on healthy tissue.

What Adjusting to Dentures Actually Involves
The first few weeks take practice. Speech can feel different, and you may produce more saliva at first. We recommend starting with softer foods cut into smaller pieces and chewing on both sides at once to keep the denture balanced. Reading aloud at home is a simple way to get comfortable with pronunciation again.
Sore spots are normal early on and are easily corrected — don't try to adjust a denture yourself. Clean it daily with a brush and a cleanser made for dentures, rinse after meals, and store it in liquid overnight so it doesn't dry out and warp. Keep brushing your gums, tongue, and any remaining natural teeth. Partial denture wearers especially need good hygiene around the supporting teeth, since those teeth carry the appliance. We'll continue seeing you for exams and cleanings with our hygienist, and over time dentures may need a reline or replacement as the jaw changes.
