Periodontal Surgery in Lady Lake

Bleeding when you brush, gums that have pulled away from your teeth, loose teeth, or pockets that keep getting deeper after a cleaning — these are the signs that gum disease has moved past what scaling and root planing alone can fix. When infection has reached the bone and tissue that hold your teeth in place, surgical treatment becomes the way to stop the damage and rebuild what has been lost. We treat patients from Lady Lake who are at every stage of this process, from early concerns to advanced cases that need reconstruction.
Periodontal surgery is a group of procedures that treat the gums and the bone beneath them. The goal is to remove infection, reduce the deep pockets where bacteria collect, and restore tissue that disease has destroyed. Depending on what we find, that can mean gum grafting to cover exposed roots, periodontal regeneration to rebuild lost bone and attachment, crown lengthening to expose more tooth structure before a crown or filling, or a gingivectomy to remove diseased tissue.
Not every case looks the same. Some Lady Lake patients come to us because a tooth feels loose and they want to keep it. Others have receding gums that make teeth sensitive to cold or look longer than they used to. Some need crown lengthening so a broken tooth can hold a restoration, and some want gum contouring for cosmetic reasons, because an uneven gum line makes their smile look off balance. We also place dental implants and provide implant maintenance, which matters when gum disease has already cost someone a tooth.
Your first visit starts with a full exam. We measure pocket depths around each tooth, check for bone loss, look at how your gums respond to probing, and take the images we need to see what is happening below the surface. We also perform oral cancer screenings as part of a thorough evaluation. From there we explain what we found in plain terms and lay out the options, including what happens if you wait.
Good candidates are usually people whose gum disease has not responded to deep cleaning, or whose recession, bone loss, or tissue overgrowth needs correction. Timing matters — the more support a tooth loses, the fewer options remain. If you are already missing teeth, we can discuss tooth replacement in the same conversation, since we provide implants, implant-supported bridges, and implant-supported dentures here. We accept patients without a referral, so you can come directly to us.
What Treatment and Recovery Look Like
Surgery is done with the area fully numbed. We offer nitrous oxide sedation and oral sedation for patients who feel anxious about dental work, and laser dentistry is part of what we do as well. During the procedure we clean out infected tissue, smooth or regenerate bone where needed, reposition or graft gum tissue, and close the site. How long it takes depends on how many areas are involved.
Here is what you can generally expect around the appointment:
- A detailed exam and discussion of findings before anything is scheduled
- Local anesthetic, with sedation options available if you want them
- Specific instructions on eating, brushing, and rinsing during healing
- A follow-up visit so we can check the site and remove sutures if needed
- Ongoing periodontal maintenance cleanings to protect the results
Aftercare is where results are won or lost. Expect some soreness and swelling for a few days. We ask you to stick to softer foods, avoid the surgical site when brushing, and follow the rinse instructions we give you. Once healing is complete, maintenance visits on a tighter schedule than standard cleanings keep bacteria from rebuilding in the areas we treated. Our hygienist handles that ongoing care.
Coming to Us from Lady Lake
Lady Lake is one of the communities we have served for years as part of our practice in Ocala, where we have provided general, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry for over 30 years. That means Lady Lake patients can handle gum surgery, restorative work, and routine care in one place instead of being sent from office to office. We treat all ages, and we offer emergency appointments when something cannot wait.
Our on-site dental lab is a practical advantage for periodontal patients. When surgery is part of a larger plan — a crown after crown lengthening, a denture repair, a restoration following implant placement — we can make and adjust that work here rather than waiting on an outside lab.
Insurance, Payment, and Getting Started
We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file claims as a general practice. We also welcome self-pay and cash patients, and we offer flexible payment plans so treatment can be spread out over time rather than paid all at once.
Before anything begins, we go over the proposed treatment and the expected cost so you can decide with full information. If you are in Lady Lake and your gums are bleeding, receding, or pulling away from your teeth, call our office and we will get you scheduled for an evaluation. Dr. Hussein Salifu and Dr. Marco Geris see patients here, and we are members of the FDA and the Central Florida District Dental Association.
