Crowns in Ocala

A cracked molar that twinges when you bite down, a large old filling that keeps chipping away, or a tooth that just finished root canal therapy — these are the moments when a filling is no longer enough and a crown becomes the right answer. Our Ocala office has been restoring teeth like these for over 30 years, and because we keep a dental lab right here in our building, many of our patients leave with a permanent crown the same day they walk in.

A dental crown is a custom-made cap that covers the entire visible portion of a tooth, restoring its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Think of it as a protective shell bonded over what remains of your natural tooth. When a tooth has lost too much structure to hold a filling safely, a crown redistributes the pressure of chewing across the whole tooth instead of concentrating it on weakened walls that can fracture.

We recommend crowns in a wide range of situations. A tooth that has been treated with root canal therapy is often more brittle and benefits from full coverage. A tooth with a deep crack — something we treat regularly in our endodontic care — may need a crown to hold it together. Crowns also cover teeth worn down by grinding, restore teeth after extensive decay, and serve as the anchors for a bridge or the final restoration on a dental implant. On the cosmetic side, a crown can correct a tooth that is badly discolored or misshapen when bonding or veneers are not the better fit.

  • Same-day crowns made in our on-site lab, which means fewer trips across Ocala and often no temporary crown
  • Protection for cracked, worn, or root canal–treated teeth that are at risk of breaking
  • Restored chewing comfort so you can eat normally again
  • A natural-looking result shaped and shaded to blend with your surrounding teeth
  • A restoration that can anchor a bridge or complete an implant
  • Care for all ages, adults and children, under one roof

Having the lab in the same building changes the experience in practical ways. Our dentists, Dr. Hussein Salifu and Dr. Marco Geris, can communicate directly with the lab about shade, contour, and bite rather than shipping a case out and waiting. If an adjustment is needed, it happens while you are still here. For patients juggling work schedules or driving in from Belleview, Summerfield, or The Villages, that convenience is often the difference between finishing treatment and putting it off.

What to Expect During the Crown Process

Your first step is an exam. We look at the tooth, take images, and talk through whether a crown is the right choice or whether an onlay, a filling, or another restoration would preserve more tooth structure. If decay or infection is present, that is addressed first — sometimes with a filling, sometimes with root canal therapy, and occasionally with crown lengthening if there is not enough healthy tooth above the gumline to hold a crown securely. We perform crown lengthening here as well, so your care stays in one place.

Once the tooth is ready, we numb the area and shape it to make room for the crown, removing damaged structure along the way. We then capture a detailed impression or scan of the prepared tooth and your bite. That information goes to our lab, where your crown is fabricated. When it is ready, we check the fit, the contacts with neighboring teeth, and how it meets your opposing teeth, then bond it into place. If you feel anxious about dental work, we offer nitrous oxide sedation and oral sedation to help you stay comfortable throughout.

Aftercare, Insurance, and Getting Started in Ocala

A new crown needs the same care as a natural tooth: brushing twice daily, flossing around the margin where the crown meets your gum, and regular cleanings and exams with our hygienist. Gum health matters here — a crown lasts longest when the tissue and bone supporting it stay healthy. If you grind or clench, we can make a night guard to shield your crown from the forces that damaged the original tooth. Mild sensitivity for a few days is common; a bite that feels high is worth a quick call, since a small adjustment usually solves it.

We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file claims as a general practice, and we welcome self-pay and cash patients. Flexible payment plans are available to help spread the cost over time. We also offer emergency appointments, so if a crown comes loose or a tooth breaks, call our Ocala office and we will work to see you promptly.
