Full Mouth Rehabilitation in McIntosh

A patient comes in from McIntosh with a familiar story: a back molar cracked years ago and was never fixed, so chewing shifted to the other side. That side wore down. A few crowns were placed at different times and no longer match. Now the bite feels off, the jaw aches by evening, and the front teeth are chipping. No single filling solves that. What solves it is treating the mouth as one connected system — and that is what full mouth rehabilitation does.
Full mouth rehabilitation is a planned sequence of treatments that rebuilds the teeth, bite, and supporting gum tissue together rather than one problem at a time. Depending on what we find, it can combine crowns, bridges, onlays, veneers, dental implants, root canal therapy, gum disease treatment, extractions, and dentures into a single coordinated plan. The goal is a bite that closes evenly, teeth that are strong enough to chew comfortably, and a smile that looks like it belongs to you.
We have practiced general, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry in Ocala for over 30 years, and McIntosh patients are a regular part of our day. Because we handle restorative work, implants, gum therapy, root canals, oral surgery, orthodontics with clear aligners, and TMJ care under one roof, a McIntosh patient isn't sent to three different offices in three different towns to complete one plan. Dr. Hussein Salifu and Dr. Marco Geris coordinate the full sequence here.
Several distinct situations lead McIntosh patients toward full mouth rehabilitation. The most common is years of accumulated wear — grinding, acid erosion, or chewing on one side — that has shortened the teeth and collapsed the bite. Another is widespread structural failure: multiple old fillings and crowns breaking down at once, often with decay underneath. A third is advanced gum disease, where teeth are loose or lost and the foundation has to be treated before anything is rebuilt. A fourth is trauma, where an accident damaged several teeth at the same time.
There is also the jaw-pain path. Patients who come to us for clicking, locking, limited jaw movement, or jaw-related headaches sometimes discover the underlying cause is how their teeth meet. We treat TMJ disorders and chronic facial pain, and when the bite is a contributing factor, rehabilitation addresses it directly rather than masking it. Candidacy generally depends on having enough healthy bone and tissue to build on — and when bone is thin, bone grafting and sinus lift surgery can create that foundation.
What the Process Looks Like
It starts with a thorough exam, including an oral cancer screening, so we understand the whole picture before proposing anything. We evaluate each tooth, the gums, the jaw joints, and how the bite functions. From there we build a written plan in phases, with the order chosen so each step supports the next.
- Stabilize first — treat active decay and gum disease with scaling and root planing, periodontal therapy, or root canals, and remove teeth that cannot be saved
- Rebuild the foundation — bone grafting, implant placement, crown lengthening, or gum grafting where needed
- Restore function — crowns, onlays, bridges, implant-supported bridges, dentures, or full arch implant options including All-on-4
- Refine appearance — veneers, composite bonding, gum contouring, or whitening to finish the result
- Verify the bite — adjust and confirm that everything closes evenly and comfortably
Our on-site dental lab shapes how this feels for McIntosh patients. Crowns, dentures, and denture repairs can be made here, which cuts down on waiting and return trips. For anxious patients, we offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation so longer appointments stay comfortable.
Aftercare and Keeping the Result
Rebuilt teeth need maintenance. Most patients settle into regular cleanings and exams with our hygienist, and those with implants or a history of gum disease move to periodontal maintenance or implant maintenance on a schedule we set together. If grinding contributed to the original damage, a custom night guard protects the new work.
Small adjustments in the first months are normal as you adapt. We'd rather see you for a quick bite check than have you live with something that feels high. If an emergency comes up, we offer emergency appointments, including same-day emergency visits for urgent problems.
Insurance, Payment, and Getting Started
We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file claims as a general practitioner, which often simplifies coverage across the different procedures in a plan. We also welcome self-pay patients and offer flexible payment plans so treatment can be phased over time.
No referral is needed. Call us to schedule a consultation, and we'll give you a clear, written plan before any treatment begins.
