A tooth that cracked on a popcorn kernel, an old silver filling that finally gave out, a back molar that's been missing so long the neighboring teeth have started to drift — these are the everyday reasons people call us. Restorative dentistry is the part of general dentistry that repairs damaged teeth and replaces missing ones so you can chew, speak, and smile without working around a problem. We've been doing this work in Ocala for over 30 years, and most of what we rebuild starts with a straightforward conversation about what's bothering you.
Restoration covers a wide range, from small to comprehensive. On the smaller end are dental fillings, composite bonding, sealants, and onlays — conservative repairs that remove decay or shore up a weakened spot while keeping as much natural tooth structure as possible. When a tooth is cracked, heavily filled, or has had root canal therapy, a crown usually makes more sense, because it covers the tooth and protects it from splitting under normal biting force. We perform root canal treatment on anterior teeth, premolars, and molars, including retreatment of root canals done elsewhere, which means a painful tooth often has a path forward rather than an automatic extraction.
When a tooth can't be saved or is already gone, replacement options include bridges, implant-supported bridges, dental implants, partial and complete dentures, implant-supported and snap-in dentures, and full-arch solutions such as All-on-4 and Teeth in a Day. For patients dealing with several failing teeth at once, full mouth reconstruction brings those pieces together into one plan. We also treat the foundation underneath: gum disease treatment, scaling and root planing, gum grafting, crown lengthening, bone grafting, and sinus lift surgery all support long-term restorative results.
If you're wondering whether you're a candidate, the honest answer is that nearly anyone with a damaged, decayed, worn, or missing tooth is. We see all ages, and we accept patients without a referral for implant, surgical, endodontic, and prosthodontic care. The first visit is an exam — often with an oral cancer screening — where we look at the tooth in question, the teeth around it, your gums, and how your bite comes together. Clenching and grinding, jaw clicking, or chronic facial pain can quietly destroy restorations, so when we see signs of TMJ trouble we discuss TMJ/TMD therapy or a night guard as part of the plan rather than as an afterthought.
A few things are worth knowing before you start:
- Treatment sequence matters — active gum disease or insufficient bone is usually addressed before crowns, bridges, or implants are placed.
- Our on-site dental lab allows for same-day crowns, dentures, and denture repairs, which can reduce the number of appointments and the time spent in a temporary.
- Nitrous oxide and oral sedation are available if dental anxiety or a longer appointment is a concern.
- Emergency appointments are available, including same-day visits for traumatic injuries and cracked teeth.
- You'll know the proposed treatment, the alternatives, and the cost before we begin.
Aftercare and What Results Look Like
Recovery depends on what was done. A filling or a same-day crown typically means a little numbness and some short-term sensitivity to temperature. Extractions, implant placement, bone grafting, and periodontal surgery involve a healing period, and we'll give you specific instructions on diet, rest, and keeping the site clean. Implants need time to integrate with bone before the final restoration goes on — that waiting period is part of what makes the result durable.
Keeping a restoration is mostly about routine. Brushing and flossing around crowns, bridges, and implants, along with regular cleanings with our hygienist, prevents the decay and gum problems that undermine good dental work. We provide implant maintenance and periodontal maintenance for patients who need closer monitoring. If you grind at night, wearing the night guard we make for you protects your investment. Dentures are not permanent appliances; they wear and the jaw changes, so we repair, reline, and replace them as needed — often same day, thanks to our lab.
Insurance, Payment, and Scheduling
We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file claims as a general practice, which keeps billing simple even for specialty procedures like implants, extractions, or root canals. We welcome self-pay and cash patients, and we offer flexible payment plans so larger treatment, such as full-arch implants or full mouth rehabilitation, can be phased or spread out.
Dr. Hussein Salifu and Dr. Marco Geris see patients from Ocala, Belleview, Silver Springs, Summerfield, Dunnellon, The Villages, Lady Lake, Marion Oaks, and the surrounding Marion County communities. If something hurts, something broke, or something's missing, call us and let's take a look together.
