Dentures in Silver Springs

Missing teeth change everyday life in small, frustrating ways — skipping the salad at a cookout, covering your mouth in photos, repeating yourself because words come out differently. For our patients from Silver Springs, dentures are often the most practical way to get those ordinary moments back. We've been restoring smiles in Marion County for over 30 years, and because we keep a dental lab on site, much of the work happens right here instead of being shipped out and waited on.
A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and the gum tissue around them. We make two main kinds, and the right one depends simply on how many natural teeth you still have.
Complete dentures replace a full arch — all the upper teeth, all the lower teeth, or both. They suit patients who have already lost their remaining teeth or who need teeth removed because of advanced decay or gum disease. A complete denture rests directly on the gum ridge and is shaped to support the lips and cheeks, which is part of why a well-made set can soften the sunken look that comes with long-term tooth loss.
Partial dentures are for patients who still have healthy natural teeth worth keeping. A partial fills the gaps and clasps or rests against the remaining teeth to stay in place. Beyond appearance and chewing, a partial does quiet structural work: it helps keep neighboring teeth from drifting into open spaces and keeps your bite distributed instead of overloading a few teeth. Many Silver Springs patients start with a partial and move to a complete denture years later, and we plan for that possibility from the beginning.
We also offer implant-supported dentures and snap-in dentures for patients who want more stability than a conventional denture provides, since our team places dental implants here as well.
Most people considering dentures fall into one of a few situations, and each one changes the plan a little.
Some patients come to us after years of patching problems — a tooth here, a crown there — until the remaining teeth simply can't carry the load. Others have lost teeth to periodontal disease and need gum treatment before anything is fitted. Some arrive with an old denture that no longer fits, clicks when they talk, or has cracked. We repair and replace existing dentures, and with the on-site lab many repairs don't require days without your teeth.
Good candidates generally share a few things:
- One or more missing teeth, or teeth that can't be saved by fillings, crowns, or root canal therapy
- Gum tissue that is healthy, or treatable first through scaling and root planing or gum disease treatment
- A willingness to clean and maintain the appliance daily
- Realistic goals for chewing, speech, and appearance that we discuss openly before we start
If extractions are needed, we handle simple and surgical extractions in-house, and we offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation for patients who feel anxious about the appointment.
What the Process Looks Like
We begin with an exam, X-rays, and an honest conversation about what you want to be able to eat and how you want your smile to look. If teeth need to come out or gums need treatment, that comes first, and we allow healing time before final impressions.
Next come impressions and bite records, which tell the lab exactly how your jaws meet. We often use a try-in stage — a wax or trial version you can see and speak with — so shade, tooth shape, and fullness get adjusted before anything is finalized. Then the denture is finished and delivered, and we check pressure points and bite balance. Follow-up adjustment visits are normal and expected; gums settle, and small refinements make the difference between a denture you tolerate and one you forget you're wearing.
Caring for Your Dentures and Getting Started
Clean your denture daily with a brush made for it and a non-abrasive cleanser, and rinse after meals. Take it out at night unless we advise otherwise, and keep it in water or solution so it doesn't dry out and warp. Keep brushing your gums, tongue, and any remaining natural teeth, and keep your regular exams with our hygienist — we check fit, screen for oral cancer, and catch sore spots early. Over time, jaw ridges change shape, so relines or a remake are a normal part of long-term denture ownership rather than a sign something went wrong.
